"Banko," in the Yaeyama Hatoma Island dialect, means a spot where someone has set up a resting place, usually under the shade of a tree and marked by a cool summer breeze, to enjoy a siesta or a conversation with others. In our Banko Forest, visitors will find the symbolic banyan tree, with a "Banko" located at the top of the tree. Although visitors wont be able to climb the tree, this is a great opportunity to take photos with a piece of Okinawan tradition.
Nearby, visitors will find a wooden complex where an adventure and recreation space is located on the 2nd floor. Inside the facility, visitors can experience hands-on craft work with natural materials.
