The Native Okinawan Village is a recreation of an early Okinawan village of the Ryukyu Kingdom in the 17th and 18th centuries. What you will see is a traditional village consisting of Utaki (a sacred place), Ugamiga (a sacred spring) and the Nirai-kanai house of worship (a place for prayers), complete with private houses and high-floored granaries.

Today's Okinawa is still engaged in rich dialogue. The Native Okinawan Village reflects such a lifestyle in real-life settings. There are a number of activities enabling you to become familiar with old Okinawa, such as hands-on experience with shamisen and traditional dance, fun worksheets, and an array of exciting seasonal events.
You will also find the Omoro Arboretum within the village, which houses 22 kinds of Okinawan native plants that appear in Omoro Sōshi, the oldest anthology of songs found in Okinawa.

When entering the Central Gate by car, you will see it in front of you upon turning left at next gate. The Native Okinawan Village is just a five-minute walk from Haisai Plaza, right across from the Oceanic Culture Museum.
