The Village is closed on the first Wednesday and Thursday of December every year for maintenance work within the park (including the aquarium).

Access to the Ocean Expo Park

The Native Okinawan Village is located within the Ocean Expo Park in Motobu, Okinawa Prefecture. About the printed guide

There is a printed guide to the Native Okinawan Village at Haisai Plaza. The guide can also be picked up at the House of Jitude (free of charge).

Hands-on experience of early Okinawa (free)

Greeted by local seniors, visitors can experience the life of ancient Okinawa, and will be served complimentary refreshments. The program offers hands-on activities and interactive presentations, including shamisen and traditional dance. Click here for more details

Self-guided tour/Written descriptions

Each building has a self-service guide available in Japanese, English and Chinese. Select a language and press the button to hear the description. All signs on the premises are also available in Japanese, English and Chinese.

Visual presentations

Presentations are available on this website for you to obtain more detailed information on the park. Presentations include fairy tales about Kijimuna, the goblin inhabiting the village, information about the eco-friendly pigsties, and seasonal local events, such as the Kajimaya, an Okinawan ritual for a celebration of longevity, and the Harvest of Suku. Please note the following:

• Fires are strictly prohibited.
• Graffitti or carving on walls is strictly prohibited.
• Feel free to view inside the buildings, but please take off your shoes before entering.
• Please do not eat or drink inside the buildings.
• Please do not pick up or remove any of the animals, plants, soil or stones.
• Please do not litter the grounds.
