Closure notice

We are closed every year on the first Wednesday of December and the following day for conducting equipment inspection of each facility within the Ocean Expo Park (Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, Tropical Dream Center and arboretum).

Closed days in 2022:December 7th and 8th, 2022

This equipment inspection allows us to welcome visitors in a “safe, comfortable and clean” environment. Thank you for your understanding.

*The gate to Ocean Expo Park is closed when the park is closed so you cannot enter the park. The park is open other than the days mentioned above (e.g. New Year’s, etc.) (Excludes temporary closure due to typhoons, etc.)

  • Since equipment inspection during the night will interfere with the monitoring of health conditions of the creatures in captivity, inspection is done during day time.
Facilities surrounding Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium <Inspection of seawater manhole>
  • Due to the high voltage equipment inspection, inspection of the inside of manholes is done during the time seawater from facilities such as the aquarium does not flow.
All facilities and paths of the park <Pest extermination of buildings and others>
  • In order to keep the interior of buildings and sewage manholes on park paths in clean and good condition, pest extermination is done.
  • Since the extermination process is not good for the human body, Buildings are off limits during and after the inspection, and for safety reasons, work is done during the day.

<Maintenance check of Planetarium>
  • For inspection of projector and cinematograph of the planetarium, it takes two days to dismantle and maintain the equipment, and replace and clean expendable supplies.
Park paths <Maintenance check of internal telephone system and public announcement system>
  • Conduct maintenance check of outdoor manholes within the park.
  • Work is done during the day in order to reduce the occurrence of oxygen shortage accidents.
Fountain Plaza and Park Information Center <Inspection of underground tank for water fountain>
  • On closure days, the underground tank for the central fountain and Park Information Center sheesah fountain is inspected and cleaned.
Tropical Dream Center <Tall tree plants in the exhibit greenhouse>
  • Plants such as Cyathea lepifera are planted inside the Orchid exhibit greenhouse in order to increase the displaying effect of the greenhouse. It becomes off limits due to the planting of trees which is carried out during the day for safety reasons.
<Pruning inside the exhibit greenhouse>
  • Pruning of vines is done for improvement of scenery inside the greenhouse. It becomes off limits due to falling pruned branches, and work is done during the day.
