“Okinawa’s Beautiful Stars – Okinawa’s starry sky and folktale”

Introduces the seasonal night sky of Okinawa and Okinawa’s folktales themed on stars.

The Beautiful Stars of Spring(Mar - May)

春ぬちゅら星

Okinawa’s night sky of summer and folktale
Together with the recreation of the starlit skies of the springtime in Motobu Town, where the Ocean Expo Park is located, the stars called Paigapusu in the Okinawa language and the Southern Cross will also be on display.
There will also be an introduction on The Origins of the Star Sand, a folk tale told on Taketomi Island.

The Beautiful Stars of Summer(Jun - Aug)

Okinawa’s night sky of summer and folktale
Along with the recreation of the starlit skies that can be seen in the summertime from Motobu Town, where the Ocean Expo Park is located, there will be commentaries about the North Star (Ninufa-bushi) that has been a great part in the lives of the people of Okinawa, as well as the constellations seen in the summer.
There will also be an introduction to the folk tale of Tarama Island, The Celestial Wife.

The Beautiful Stars of Autumn(Sep - Nov)

秋ぬちゅら星

Okinawa’s night sky of autumn and folktale
There will be a recreation of the starlit skies of autumn as seen from Motobu Town, where the Ocean Expo Park is located, there will also be showings of various stars including the quadrilateral stars of autumn, called the Oyochiya-bushi in the Okinawan language.
Also introduced will be a folk tale from Ishigaki Island, The Giant Man from the Moon.

The Beautiful Stars of Winter(Dec - Feb)

Okinawa’s night sky of winter and story
With the recreation of the star-filled skies that can be observed from Motobu Town, where the Ocean Expo Park is located, there will also be showings of numerous stars such as the clusters of the Pleiades, called Nurika-bushi or Nuri-bushi in the Okinawan language.
Also introduced will be Nurika-bushi Yunta, a story based on an ancient song from the Yaeyama region.

The Great Voyage of Roy and Friends

-Guided by the star-
An apprentice navigator, Roy (17 years old), faces to his first voyage to 800km distant Guam Island. He and his crew embark to the epic voyage by drawing fully upon the strength of the traditional technique “Star Navigation”, which was taught by his grandfather.
