Noro's House (District priestess)

Residence of the female servant of god who controls the rituals of the village

Since ancient times in Okinawa, there has been the Onari-gami belief that female relatives protect men spiritually, and sisters become [Nigan] to protect the eldest son of the pioneering house [Niya] spiritually, pray for the good harvests of the village [Shima], and perform rituals.
Noro is a job position appointed by the Shuri royal government during the Kingdom era, and several people are assigned to the Magiri (current municipalities), and they have visited multiple [Shima] in the Magiri to perform rituals. The Noro job has been given treatment such as being given a certain amount of land, and since they were allowed to marry, the job has been passed down from generation to generation by female relatives.
Noro's house is a wooden house with a tiled roof, and the room layout is not much different from that of a general private house, but a place of prayer is set up in a separate building inside the mansion as [Noro Dunchi]. Three stones of three things [Michimun], which is the prototype of the god of fire [Hinukan] are enshrined in [Noro Dunchi], and Noro prays for national security and good harvests.
