琉球列島の固有種です。沖縄島北部の生育地ではダムによる水量調節のための生育地の乾燥化、人の立ち入りに伴う踏圧などにより個体数は激減しています。

In northern Okinawa Island, populations have declined drastically due to habitat desiccation caused by water level regulation associated with dam construction, as well as trampling by tourists.
