山地の樹上や岩上に着生するランです。沖縄ではもともと自生地と個体数が少なく、園芸用の採取や自生地の開発などによって絶滅寸前です。沖縄島から約400kmの海を隔てた北大東島にも本種が自生し、種子が風にのって散布されていることがわかり、植物の分散能力を知る上で貴重です。
準絶滅危惧 (NT)
This orchid grows epiphytically on trees and lithophytically on rocks in mountainous areas. In Okinawa, its natural populations have always been small and restricted in distribution, and the species is now on the brink of extinction due to collection for horticultural purposes and habitat loss resulting from land development. The species also occurs naturally on Kitadaito Island, located approximately 400 km from Okinawa Island across the sea. This distribution indicates that its seeds are dispersed by wind over long distances, making the species valuable for understanding plant dispersal mechanisms.
