オオタニワタリ

岩上や太い木の股の部分に着生するシダ植物で、奄美諸島や沖縄島における分布は霧がかかる山地に限られます。沖縄島の海岸から山地まで広く見られるヤエヤマオオタニワタリと一見ほとんど同じですが、葉の裏側の胞子をつけている線状の部分が葉の縁の近くまで伸びている（後者では下半分程度で止まる）点で簡単に区別できます。暑さと乾燥を嫌いますので、森林伐採には極めて敏感です。
準絶滅危惧 (NT)
This epiphytic fern grows on rocks and in the crotches of large trees. In the Amami Islands and on Okinawa Island, its distribution is restricted to misty montane forests. It is superficially very similar to Asplenium setoi N.Murak. et Seriz., which occurs widely from coastal areas to montane forests on Okinawa Island. However, the two species can be readily distinguished by the sori on the undersides of the fronds: in this species, the linear sori extend almost to the leaf margins, whereas in A. setoi they are generally confined to approximately the basal half of the lamina.
Because this fern is intolerant of heat and desiccation, it is highly sensitive to forest clearing and habitat disturbance.
