There are a number of historic structures and sites in the surrounding area of Shurijo Castle. You can enjoy a very distinctive atmosphere of an ancient city.
Sueyoshi-gu Shrine is one of the Eight Shrines of Ryukyu.
It is also referred to as “Shadan”.
This pond is said to have been made in 1427 on orders by King Sho Hashi, the king who unified Ryukyu.
Long ago, it is said that envoys (Sapposhi) sent by the Chinese emperors were entertained on boats on the Ryutan, as they gazed at the beautiful reflection of Shurijo Castle on the water.
Enkakuji Temple was the most revered temple in Ryukyu, and as the name suggests, it was designed after the Enkakuji Temple in Kamakura.
The Butsuden where a Buddhist image was enshrined, the gates, bell and other assets were designated as national treasures before the war, but majority of the assets were destroyed in the Battle of Okinawa. Presently, only the main Somon gate, the Ishigaki stone walls, the Migiwakimon gate, and Hojochi pond are restored.
This stone-paved road was constructed as an arterial roadway in the 16th century.
Originally, the road stretched a distance of 10 kilometers, but today, only about 280 meters of it remain in Kinjocho. The road still maintains the essence of the bygone era.
Royal mausoleum of the Second Sho Dynasty. There are three chambers within the mausoleum which is a feature distinctive of Okinawa.

Shikinaen Garden (also referred to as Shichina-Udun) was the secondary residence of the royal family. It was constructed in 1799, with the main Udun hall, the hexagonal Rokkakudai pavilion, Kankodai observatory, stone bridges, monuments and other structures surrounding a manmade pond.
This Kaiyushiki Teien, a type of Japanese garden that features a path around a pond, was destroyed in the Battle of Okinawa. Restoration work began in 1975 and it was expanded to its present scale in 1995.
