Stone culture that creates the scenery of Okinawa
This raised granary is a storehouse for grains. The model of this granaries of is [Boregura] which remains in Yamato Village, Oshima Is.. Takakura can be seen in Amami Islands except Yoronjima Is.. Compared to Takakura in Okinawa, the roof slope is steeper, the wall slope is almost horizontal, and the pillars are thick, hard, Rats can't go up the slippery pillars because they are shaved and too smooth. The floor of the storehouse is square-shaped, and a log ladder with notches are used to climb the Takakura.
Amami’s raised granaries were normally in the properties of relatively wealthy farmers, but [Boregura] were built collectively near the outskirts of the village or the fields, and shared by farmers. Storehouses were built with farmers’ wisdom---away from private houses not to be burnt down by fire in their village, and near the field to carry in the harvests easily.
