Legends of the demon [Majimun]
The banyan tree is one of the symbolic trees in the subtropical forests of Okinawa. A spirit called [Kijimuna] lives in a large banyan tree, and there are many legends that have coexisted with humans, such as helping with fishing and work, and drinking sake. Many gods and spirits in Okinawa are living in many places, creatures, and tools, and there are many legends about them.
The spirits (ghosts) that do evil to humans are especially called [Majimun] (demons). There are many kinds of [Majimun] in Okinawa, and it seems that they were involved with people. In the tradition of [Majimun], there are habits that you should not do, places that you should not approach, things that you should be careful about, things you should cherish, how to expose [Majimun], etc. It contains the folklore of commandments along with scary stories.
Spirits and [Majimun] should still exist here and there, but now it seems that the number of people who have seen them is decreasing.
