Main building and kitchen separated into two buildings

This building is a private house located in Naon, Yamato Village of Ohshima-gun, Kagoshima Prefecture. The private house of Amami is generally composed of two buildings, the main building and kitchen, and the layout of the main building is two rooms forming a line i.e. front room “omote” and back room “uchi (or ura)”. Later on, the back room was divided into two rooms, and developed into a three-room layout. The front room is the guest room and back room is the bedroom. The kitchen called “Tohgura” is connected with the main building by a corridor. There is no earth floor in general.
